The minimum deposit is typically 5% of the property value for first-time buyers and home movers. Buy-to-let mortgages usually require at least 25%. A larger deposit gives you access to lower interest rates and better products.
A fixed rate stays the same for a set period (typically 2–10 years), giving you certainty on your monthly payments. A tracker rate moves in line with the Bank of England base rate, which can mean lower payments but with more risk if rates rise.
